AMS P Obul Reddy Senior Citizens Home

The Golden Jubilee of Andhra Mahila Sabha was celebrated on 21.12.1987 at Chennai and the then Prime Minister of India, Sri. Rajiv Gandhi attended the function as a Chief Guest and graced the occasion. During the function, one of the project was proposed by Sri.P.Obul Reddy, that was “the home for the aged” and he came forward with a considerable amount of donation for the construction of Senior Citizens Home   in order to serve for the noble cause.

The foundation stone was laid by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Sri. M.Karunanidhi on 25th March, 1990.  The Home for the aged known as Sri.P.Obul Reddy Senior Citizens Home started functioning from the year 1992.

The Home was managed by the Andhra Mahila Sabha with the main object of providing a decent and comfortable shelter to the needy senior citizens regardless of caste, or creed, at the evening of their lives.  Both men and women from all walks of life are living under one roof in peace.

With the modest beginning in the year 1992, Sri.P. Obul Reddy Senior Citizens home is one of the well maintained home in the city of Chennai now and also one of the most sought after home in the city by the Senior citizens.

The Home was actually started functioning in the year 1992.  Owing to rapid changes in the family structure of today, there is a great demand for the Old age Home.  It has got 45 rooms and all the Inmates are living in harmony.

The rooms occupied by the residents are spacious, airy and well furnished.  Hygienic, nutritious vegetarian food is served to the inmates and special diet on medical advice or request is provided.

The home arranges medical facilities for the care of the residents and a panel of specialist doctors are readily available within the campus for any medical -aid. Trained nurses are provided to look after the residents who are under medical treatment.

 Solar water heaters were installed to supply hot water to the residents.

The home provides tamil, english daily newspapers for the benefit of the inmates.

 A well-furnished pooja hall is available in the home and the inmates are regularly conducting Bhajans and also Sri Sai Devotees visit our Home and conduct Bhajans periodically.

Every year the Home celebrates elder’s day in a befitting manner in the month of October.  During the celebration, Cultural programs are arranged, gift hampers are presented to the residents followed by dinner. Eminent people of the society are invited to grace the occasion.

The home greets its residents on their Birthdays and sending the greeting cards. Important national festivals and other functions are celebrated in a befitting manner.  It also provides special Lunch to the residents on festival days.

In View of the great demand for accommodation from Senior Citizensadditional rooms were constructed on the second floor with lift facility.

Some of the residents living in the home have appreciated the services rendered by the home and as token of their appreciation they have donated considerable amount for the development of the home and given declaration that the deposit amount may be treated as donation after their demise.

The home is having a Lift facility for the benefit of the residents.  There is a big visiting hall with common Television and Telephone facility.    The home is equipped with Solar Water Heating-systems, which supply Hot water to the Inmates in each room.
Well-decorated Pooja room is available for the benefit of the Inmates to conduct the Bhajans and perform regular poojas.

The Home for the aged, called “ Sri.P.Obul Reddy Senior Citizens Home” is managed by Andhra Mahila Sabha, Chennai with the object of providing a decent and comfortable shelter to the needy Citizens regardless of caste or creed, at the fag end of their lives.

Sri.P.Obul Reddy, a well known Industralist and Philanthropist of Chennai, came forward with generous donation for the construction of the Building with spacious airy rooms.  The home is fully furnished and nutritious food is served to the residents.  The Home is maintained well and it is one of the most sought after home in the City of Chennai.

The Home  arranges for Medical facilities for the care of the Residents from the Durgabai Deshmukh General Hospital and Research Centre, in the same campus.    The Doctors of the Hospital make regular visit to the Home to provide medical care to the needy Inmates in the Home.
